by Jolex Del Pilar

Thursday, October 23, 2003

Game competition will offer chance to win $100,000 prize.

Sin City will be ground zero for the first annual ATI/AMD Cyber X Games Championships held in conjunction with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Thursday - Sunday, Jan. 8 - 11.

The biggest, baddest gamer festival in the country will offer competitors the chance to win $600,000 in cash and prizes over the course of several qualifying tournaments and the championships. The $100,000 Counter-Strike first prize will be the single largest purse in gaming history.

Hordes of gamers, the top players from all corners of the world, will overrun Las Vegas to face each other in brutal FPS and RTS combat. The best-of-the-best will battle it out in Counter-Strike, Unreal Tournament 2003, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, America's Army and Warcraft III at the largest gaming event in the world.

Cyber X Gaming is currently holding regional qualification tournaments across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The original finals, scheduled in Orlando, Florida were moved to Las Vegas to give attendees the opportunity to also attend CES to see the newest consumer electronics.

AMD, global supplier of integrated circuits for the personal and networked computers, and ATI, world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative 3D graphics and digital media silicon solutions, are the presenting sponsors.

"Forget every gaming event that has come before," Joe Hill, president, Cyber X Gaming, said. "ATI/AMD Cyber X Games will have the best competitors, the biggest attendance and the largest prizes ever seen."

Gamers that can't attend the qualifying events have the opportunity to compete in any five of the games in the BYOC (bring your own computer) event for a share of $100,000 in prizes. The 2,500 open spots for the BYOC event are available on a first come, first served basis.

A special Quake 3 tournament will be held during the festival only for female players.

In between events, competitors and spectators can relax and play the wide assortment of computer and console games in the Cyber X Lounge where the newest and sweetest games will be available for participant use around the clock.

Anyone interested in registering as a competitor or just attending the event can find information at http://www.cyberxgaming.com/registration.
