Jaleco to sponsor Mosconi Cup
by Jolex Del Pilar

Monday, December 8, 2003

Sponsorship is part of marketing drive for upcoming pool game.

Jaleco Entertainment, publisher of World Championship Pool 2004 for PC CD-ROM, PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, and the Xbox video game system from Microsoft, is the official sponsor of Team USA at this year's Mosconi Cup, the video game company announced today.

The Mosconi Cup is one of pool's most prestigious contests and annually pits Team USA and Team Europe, similar to the Ryder Cup in golf. The 2003 Mosconi Cup will be held December 18-21 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, marking the first time in the event's nine-year history that it will be played in the United States. Team Europe travels to the US to defend its 2002 title, the first win by that squad in seven years.

Members of the 2003 Mosconi Cup's Team USA who are licensed in World Championship Pool 2004 include Earl "The Pearl" Strickland, a three-time WPA World Pool Champion and five-time US Open Champion, and Mosconi stalwart Johnny Archer. This year's Team Europe players who appear in the game include Steve Davis of England, Marcus Chamat of Sweden, Nick Van Den Berg of Holland, Mika Immonen of Finland, Ralf Souquet of Germany, and current 2003 World Champion Thorsten Hohmann, Germany's 24-year-old pool phenom.

The Mosconi Cup will be televised live on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom and a six-hour highlights show will air on ESPN2 in the United States from 1 to 7 p.m. December 28 and January 28-30, 2004, reaching a total of nearly 50 million viewers in 19 countries. Tickets for the Mosconi Cup are available from the MGM Grand box office at 1-800-929-1111 or at http://www.mosconicup.com.
