ATI Technologies Inc. is now shipping its “mid-range” 3D workstation graphics board. The Fire GL 8800 features 128 MB of DDR memory and supports Microsoft’s DirectX 8.1.
The Fire GL 8800 offers users a choice of drivers for Windows 2000, Windows NT and Linux environments, and supports resolutions of up to 2048x1536 pixels in 32-bit color. Developers can design a game in OpenGL and play it back using ATI’s TrueForm and SmartShader rendering technologies.
Initial shipments of the board are going to Hewlett-Packard Co. for inclusion in its upcoming line of technical workstations.
