Online gaming will be a near billion dollar industry by 2003, who will be the leaders?
The Themis Group has released its report on online and wireless gaming, which estimates that online gaming will grow to $635 million in revenues by 2003.
Themis estimates the anticipated industry leaders in online gaming as of December 2003 as: 1. Sony Online Entertainment 2. NCSoft 3. Electronic Arts 4. Mythic Entertainment 5. Microsoft Corp.
Themis also estimated the likely popularity of new persistent worlds (ordered by total gross revenue): 1. Star Wars Galaxies—SOE 2. The Sims! Online—EA/Maxis 3. Shadowbane—Ubi Soft/Wolfpack 4. Asheron’s Call 2—Microsoft/Turbine 5. Earth and Beyond—EA/Westwood (revenues were estimated based upon a $12.95 monthly fee for Galaxies and $9.95 for The Sims!)
