Richard King will work on upcoming Pirates of the Burning Sea.
Flying Lab Software today revealed that Richard King, recently nominated for an Academy Award in Sound Editing for the movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, has agreed to be the Sound Designer for Flying Lab Software’s massively multiplayer online computer game, Pirates of the Burning Sea.
Richard King is a veteran Hollywood sound designer. His many credits include Twister, Gattaca, Magnolia, Unbreakable, Signs, and Peter Weir's magnificent seafaring adventure film, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. For Flying Lab’s Pirates of the Burning Sea, which takes place on the high seas during the 18th Century, King will produce a complete soundscape that will include cannons firing, ships exploding in splinters, sails billowing in a rising wind, the awesome fury of a storm, the calls of Caribbean birds, and more. King’s realistic and impressive sounds will be ever present in the game’s dynamically mixed, cinematic surround sound.
"I'm a sailor myself," King says, "and working on Master and Commander left me wanting to do even more with ships at sea. I've never done a computer game before, but after Flying Lab showed me footage of what they were up to, I knew I wanted to be involved."
