Coming from the Outback to a major game console near you, everyone’s favorite boomerang wielding tiger (or the only I know of for that matter) is back in Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue. Ty’s arch nemesis from the original platformer, Evil Boss Cass, has broken out of Currawong Jail and has created a diabolic plan to take over the world with an army of Uber Reptiles. To combat this new threat to Earth as we know it, Ty assembles a team of Burramudgee Bush Rescue mates to battle this new menace.
Twenty-one weapons are now accessible to Ty as he travels across the Outback to stop Evil Boss Cass, including the Lasharang, Kaboomarang, and the Megarang. He can also take control of five different types of “Mechs” to help him on his way. These “Mechs” can be used to travel in otherwise impassible terrain, fire a multitude of weapons, fight numerous enemies, complete mini-missions, and “much more” (in the words of Electronic Arts).
Speaking of getting around, Ty 2 offers multiple modes of transportation to get around the Outback, including “Mechs” (mentioned above), submarines, helicopters, off road trucks, and on foot (obviously), to solve its many combat and puzzle missions. New to the series is the ability to compete in multi-player cart races, reminiscent of the Mario Kart series. There will be seven different levels with multiple upgrades and power-ups.
Ty has also borrowed GTA’s free world roam concept. Ty will be able to travel around a luscious Outback setting, interacting with hundreds of insignificant characters who will give Ty puzzles and missions to solve (sound familiar?). The environment is also supposedly interactive, making Ty have to find new ways to travel around at certain times (see vehicle paragraph). EA has created LETS (Living Environment Technology) to give the gameplay areas a more colorful and natural look.
For those into new kiddy GTA clones, Ty 2 should be available for Gamecube, Playstation 2, and XBOX by October 26, 2004.
