The keypoints that may give this game a favorable outlook on the Gamecube is that the game has no competition on the Nintendo flagship console. |
When Evolution 2 was first released on the Dreamcast it was largely ignored by most gamers. Whether that can be blamed on the lackluster system it was released on or on the quality of the game's content is debatable. Regardless of its popularity, Ubi Soft has decided to bring over the sequel titled, "Evolution Worlds", which is being developed by Sting of Japan.
Evolution Worlds is the next episode in the adventure of heroes Mag and Linear from Evolution and Evolution 2. The story is similar to other RPGs of years past ("Vay" from the Sega CD comes to mind) but one would suspect it is interesting enough to captivate most gamers.
Basically, after the demise of a superior ancient civilization, Cyframe technology -- enchanted mechanical body weaponry -- is discovered. Every young adolescent aspires to be a Cyframe “Adventurer,” including Evolution Worlds’ feisty hero, Mag. Mag and his friend, the enigmatic heroine, Linear, embark on a journey to discover the mysterious Evolutia. Evil warriors of the Eighth Empire are also trying to find Evolutia, the last piece of the ancient world. Mag, Linear and their watchful butler Gre Nade, along with friends Chain Gun and Pepper Spray set out on their perilous journey to save the world from treacherous evil forces, and uncover the truth of Evolutia and the ancient world
From what we've seen here at VGLN.com the games turn based combat system is going to be the standard raw-raw, time bar, HP, MP, turn based comabt. Taking a page from Wild Arms on the original PSX, only three characters can inhabit the player's party at one time. The game also features a graphical style similar to Wild Arms with cutesy anime characters with large heads and even larger eyes. This will at least make the game popular with manga or anime fans.
The simple but cute graphics style will definitely appeal to younger gamers.
The keypoints that may give this game a favorable outlook on the Gamecube is that the game has no competition on the Nintendo flagship console. The gamecube is lacking in the RPG genre (as well as others) and Evolution Worlds certainly has a chance to make a splash on the system. A balanced combat and leveling system will pay huge dividends to this game as well as measured progression of the story. Having never played the original Evolution games, just the simple fact that there were two games before the current version shows that the team behind the series has some valued experience in developing this type of game. Of course that hasn't helped the team behind the Knockout Kings Series from EA which seemingly gets worse with each successive year. Hopefully Evolution World's development team has honed their skills enough on the previous two titles to create a truly wonderful RPG, something the Gamecube might appreciate at this point in the console war game.
