Expected Release: March 2003

Grapevine: The new maps in Jungle Storm are not planned for release on any other console version of the game.

Early last month, Ubi Soft announced that their studio in Paris, France would begin development on a new addition to the popular Ghost Recon series, except this time the title would be exlusive for the PS2. Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm will be the first exclusive game for the series on any platform. Previous versions were always released in some way or another on multiple platforms. Even more surprising is that Jungle Storm will also feature the levels from the original Ghost Recon, Ghost Recon: Desert Siege, and Ghost Recon: Island Thunder, all of which were previous games in the series. This means ,that potentially, the game could feature nearly 50 missions, a huge amount of content.

Jungle Storm's gameplay looks very similar to the original title, with a few aesthetic changes (a streamlined tactical map for one). The PS2 version of Ghost Recon featured lower resolution textures than the PC and Xbox versions, and as a result looked visually inferior. However the developers have promised to squeeze as much as they can from the PS2 hardware to make sure that game looks as close visually to the PC and Xbox versions as possible with Jungle Storm.

Jungle Storm's back story takes place in Columbia, as the "Ghost" attempt to stop Columbian druglords from influencing politics in post-Castro Cuba. This new campaign is said to take place over 8 missions.

Perhaps the biggest addition to this chapter of Ghost Recon is the addition of voice communication with other players and the A.I. Much like the Xbox Live compatible version of Ghost Recon, Jungle Storm will allow voice communication with other players in multiplayer (full headset support) and with A.I players in single player. Ubi Soft France has planned over 160 voice recognized commands for players to give to the A.I. How this works in practice is still unknown as a test version of the code isn't available yet that features this addition.

Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm is set to be released by the end of November, and should give PS2 modem owners a reason besides SOCOM 2 and Final Fantasy XI to be happy during the holidays.
