Rival console terms "Microsoft's Xbox" came in at #29, and "Nintendo's Gamecube" at #89.

Yahoo! Inc. has released its Buzz Index for the Year 2001, which lists the most popular search terms and phrases used on the company’s search engine.

The number one phrase used in 2001—even edging out burgeoning tartlet Britney Spears, who finished in the second slot—was PlayStation 2. Microsoft’s Xbox came in at Number 29, while Nintendo’s GameCube landed at the Number 81 spot.

Yahoo! released a list of the top videogame specific searches as well, and the results were:
1. The Sims
2. Half Life: Counter Strike
3. Diablo II
4. EverQuest
5. StarCraft
6. Final Fantasy IX
7. Legend of Zelda
8. Final Fantasy VIII
9. Black & White
10. Final Fantasy VII

All results cover the dates of January 1 through December 15, 2001.
