Microsoft not producing sports titles in 2004

Temporary withdrawal aimed at increasing quality.

Microsoft Game Studios has announced that the company will temporarily not produce any Xbox Sports titles for 2004.

Licenses such as NFL Fever, NBA Inside Drive and NHL Rivals will be affected by the plan, but will most likely return by 2005 after undergoing a revamp aimed at “closing the quality gap” between its sports lineup and that of its competitors.

Rallisport Challenge 2, due out next month, is the only XSN Sports title scheduled to be released in the remainder of this calendar year. Other sports titles franchises such as Links, Top Spin and Amped were not among titles scheduled to be updated yearly and therefore are not affected by this latest news.
