Jetix Cards Live! launches
by Kit

Monday, February 16, 2004

Card game can be played online and on TV, courtesy of ABC Family and Toon Disney.

"Jetix Cards Live!," the world's first trading card game that is played concurrently on TV and online, launches SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14 at JETIX.tv and on ABC Family and Toon Disney each weekend during the channels' new Jetix action/adventure line-up. The online trading card game, with skill levels designed for a range of ages, was developed by the New Media and Technology team at ABC Cable Networks Group, a division of The Walt Disney Company.

The game coincides with the launch of Jetix, a dynamic new action/adventure programming line-up that takes kids to fantastic new worlds, spotlights teamwork and skill mastery while sparking kids' imagination with stories of good versus evil. Among the Jetix programming is "Power Rangers DinoThunder" (the newest series in the global phenomenon "Power Rangers"), the hit anime series "Beyblade" and the series focusing on an all digital world, "Digimon." ABC Family airs Jetix daily (weekdays, 7:00-9:00 a.m. and weekends 7:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET/PT). Toon Disney presents Jetix programming block Monday-Thursday, (7:00-9:00 p.m., ET/PT) and weekends (7:00-9:00 p.m., ET/PT).

85% of kid TV viewers who have computers state that they multi-task during television viewing and 33% of all kids report that they watch TV while using the internet.*

Eleo Hensleigh, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Brand Strategy, ABC Cable Networks Group said, "A whole new generation uses media in a different way and this exciting game, converging TV and the internet, will enhance the entertainment value for our young viewers and encourage strategic thinking, competition and skills mastery."

Upon registering at Jetix.tv, users receive a virtual pack of 40 "Jetix Cards" each highlighting characters, both heroic and villainous, and elements of the action/adventure programming seen during Jetix on ABC Family and Toon Disney. Every day, users who log in receive a booster pack of more virtual cards. Each card has a degree of rarity and can be collected in a customized online album. Plus, as additional cards are collected, users can better their chance at getting a high score in the live game against the "Jetix Master."

"We have taken Jetix to the next level of engagement by incorporating our experience creating content for this age group with an outstanding game engine from ABC’s Enhanced TV Group,” said David Watson, Executive Director of New Media and Technology, ABC Cable Networks Group.

"Jetix Cards Live!" begins every weekend at selected times during the Jetix programming blocks, mornings from 8:30-10:00 a.m., ET/PT on ABC Family and evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m., ET/PT on Toon Disney. Users who log onto Jetix.tv can pick a combination of cards from their collection to battle against the "Jetix Master," who plays one of his cards online and one of his cards on TV. Users can also answer "Watch and Unlock Questions" to "unlock" and play more cards from their collection. These special online questions refer to events in the episode that take place as the question is asked.

Points are tallied automatically according to how well the user played their cards against the JETIX Master. A Leader Board, with the names of high scorers from each round of "Jetix Cards Live!" will be displayed online at the end of each game and on TV the following weekend. The top 100 scorers have the opportunity to be selected as the next "Jetix Master," playing against all other competitors.
