Friday, August 20 2004

GameWorks studio to host WCG finals in September.

The World Cyber Games (http://www.worldcybergames.com), in conjunction with Samsung Electronics, announced today that GameWorks in Long Beach, California will be the site of the US national finals from September 17-19, 2004. Over one million gamers world-wide are vying for spots on their national teams in order to participate in the world's largest game festival.

Winners at the national finals become the 25 members of "Team USA" which will advance to the international WCG 2004 Grand Final in San Francisco. There they will face off against 700 champion gamers from 64 countries from October 6-10 at the Bill Graham Civic center to compete for national honors and $400,000 in prizes.

GameWorks, located on the recently developed Pike at Rainbow Harbor, offers a 40,000 square high-tech entertainment center and restaurant featuring state-of-the-art technology and a premium gaming facility. Located directly across from the renowned Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, GameWorks features a unique design that will be a fitting setting for the US Final.

Eight official WGC 2004 games will be played this year: StarCraft: Brood War, WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne, Counter-Strike:Condition-Zero, Need for Speed: Underground, FIFA Soccer 2004, Unreal Tournament 2004, Halo, and Project Gotham Racing 2 (Xbox).
