Pikmin 2 ships to retail
by Jolex Del Pilar

Monday, August 30 2004

Miyamoto's garden now has a sequel.

Nintendo of America Inc. and LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation today announced that Pikmin 2 (originally based on Miyamoto's experiences within his personal garden...) is being released to retail outlets and hotels at the same time—the first time in history that a GameCube title has been introduced to the consumer and lodging markets simultaneously.

While gamers at home start controlling the colorful race of plant/animal hybrids, LodgeNet will be premiering the game in all hotels that it has installed with the Nintendo GameCube. In the game, players control Captain Olimar and associate Louie "as they work with native Pikmin in finding treasures to repay their employer for a load of carrots that was hijacked on Louie's watch." The Pikmin's special powers are each different, depending on the color, lending some strategy elements to the title.

Steven D. Truckenmiller, Senior Vice President, Programming and Content Management for LodgeNet, stated, "Having set a precedent of concurrent lodging and consumer releases with Nintendo 64 titles, we are proud to continue that tradition with Nintendo GameCube as we premiere Pikmin 2 in hotels the same day Nintendo releases it to stores."

Rated "E" (Everyone), Pikmin 2 retails for $49.99.
